Bloomsburg Sweeps Clarion; Huskies Get Combined No-Hitter in Nightcap

CLARION-- Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) and Jamie Minix (Clarksboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) combined for a no-hitter in to lead Bloomsburg University to an 8-0 win over Clarion University in game two of a doubleheader on Thursday. In game one, Shayla Esgro (Jermyn/Lakeland) went 3-3 and drove in two runs to lead the Huskies to a 4-0 win.

In game two, Reed went the first three innings and struck out three and did not walk a batter. One runner did reach base via error in the second inning before Reed gave way to Minnix in the fourth. The freshman faced just seven batters with one runner also reaching base on an error.

The Huskies got on the board in the first inning on an RBI single by Reed, then, added four runs in the third and three in the fourth. Nikki Shiko (Kulpmont/Southern Columbia) had an RBI doubles in the inning, while Mandy Koch (Dauphin/Central Dauphin) and Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) added RBI singles. In the fourth, Koch doubled home two runs to help put the game away for the Huskies.

In the opener, Esgro went 3-3 and drove in runs in the fourth and sixth innings with singles. Jenna Hampton (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) had an RBI single in the second and Shiko doubled home a run in the seventh. Shavaun Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) went the distance allowing just three hits and striking out six.

Bloomsburg, 24-4, 9-1 in the PSAC Central, plays at Mansfield on Saturday at 1 p.m.
